Course Description+

The purpose of this advanced Pre-Calculus Honors course is to emphasize the properties of functions and other skills necessary for the study of calculus. This course provides an in-depth study and preparation which is specific to the skills needed for success in AP Calculus and in thinking critically to apply functions to real situations. Topics include, but are not limited to, polynomial, rational, exponential, inverse, logarithmic, and circular functions; sequences and series; theory of limits; vectors; conic sections; polar coordinates; symbolic logic; mathematical induction; matrix algebra; trigonometry of right triangles, trigonometric equations; solutions of oblique triangles; and trigonometric identities. This course is strongly recommended for the college-bound student pursuing a discipline that is mathematically related. A scientific calculator is required for some portions of the course.

Honors level classes can expect more rigorous requirements for assignments and assessments.

Meet Adam Rubin+

Mr. Rubin has been teaching mathematics and physics for over 20 years. He started his teaching career teaching as an adjunct at a 2 year college after earning his B.S. in Mathematics and Physics. After completing his M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction, he taught AP Calculus BC and physics at a large public school for almost 10 years. After many years of teaching, he decided to try something new and opened an exotic pet shop outside of Chicago, that he ran for almost seven years. After selling the pet store, he went back into teaching and taught at two different schools in the US and one in Jamaica, before returning to AHS, where he previously taught from 2014-2018.

She is passionate about teaching math as well as physical sciences.
