Course Description+

College Writing students will prepare for the level of writing expected in college courses by elevating their level of rhetoric, syntax, and analysis; practicing the essay portion of the SAT; and understanding the college application essay. Students will learn to improve their writing through planning, pre-writing, writing a first draft, proofreading, editing, revising, and publishing a final draft.

This 3-week semester course is offered for first time credit, for credit grade replacement, or for non-credit enrichment in preparation for taking the course in the future. Please check with your school regarding credit from outside institutions.

Meet Apostolia Papadopoulus+

Apostolia Papadopoulos has been teaching for over 25 years. She graduated from NYU with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Arts in International Education. From the early 90s to currently, her professional interests include World History, US History, Economics, Research Skills. World Languages, and Project-Based Learning. Lia started her teaching career in NYC, where she taught a diverse group of students in junior high and high school. She also worked with the University of Phoenix online. At University of Phoenix, she was an online instructor and a training specialist for the College of Humanities and Education. Recently, Ann started to work at American Heritage School teaching World Geography, College Writing, Participation in Government and Economics. She believes that student success is created through meaningful student-teacher relationships in which everyone has opportunities to learn from one another.

Meet Beth Vera+

Beth Vera is an educator who loves to teach and find creative ways to help her students find success. With a Master’s Degree in Education and certification to teach grades 6-12 English Language Arts, her experience ranges from teaching remedial reading and writing skills to challenging and enriching curriculum for advanced and high achieving students. This is her ninth year as part of the American Heritage family and twenty-fourth year as an educator in total. Her creativity and love for literature and writing fuel her passion focused on guiding her students toward becoming effective communicators.

Meet Wendy Schauben+

Wendy Schauben has been teaching for nine years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Central Florida with a special focus in creative writing. Additionally, she previously served as a Director of Speech and Debate. Ms. Schauben has been a member of the American Heritage Schools, Palm Beach Campus, faculty since 2022 and teaches English 1 and 2. She enjoys reading Shakespeare, annotating poetry, and lively class discussions.

Additional Course Information+

A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
