Course Description+
Abnormal Psychology Honors is an advanced course that introduces the study of unusual patterns of behavior and various psychological disorders, including their symptoms and treatment. Students will learn how to recognize the different models that are used to understand abnormal behavior.
Honors level classes can expect more rigorous requirements for assignments and assessments.
This 3-week semester course is offered for first time credit, for credit grade replacement, or for non-credit enrichment in preparation for taking the course in the future. Please check with your school regarding credit from outside institutions.

Session 1A: 6/12/23 - 6/30/23 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) (EST) - 0.50 credit
Meet Krisynda Cicos+
Veteran American Heritage psychology teacher Krisynda Cicos has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Hawai'i and a Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. Some populations that she has worked with in the Mental Health field include veterans, victims of domestic violence, drug and alcohol abusers, juveniles living in residential treatment facilities, family evaluations for the purpose of adoption, and family/couples/individual therapy. She sincerely enjoys working with adolescents and is looking forward to sharing her excitement about the study of psychology, and her experiences as a psychotherapist, with her students.
Meet Dr. Kim Schear-Katz+
American Heritage teacher Dr. Kimberlee Schear-Katz has taught undergraduate and graduate level college courses both in the classroom and online for 13 years. She has taught high school level psychology, government, and economics classes for 16 years. In addition, she teaches AP Psychology. Dr. Schear-Katz has a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy, a Master's in Mental Health Counseling and has been a therapist for 6 years. She is proud that the last time her class played the Florida High School Virtual Stock Market game her student came in first place.
Additional Course Information+
A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
