Course Description+
This course explores the systems of the human body. Students learn the names, locations and characteristics of each system through an exploratory process that includes dissection of animals and human organs. Physiology (mechanics of the human body) is taught through the use of interactive software. Visiting physicians lecture on their own specialties and experiences. The lab portion will consist of dissecting a cat. This course is required for students who are planning to complete the Honors Medical Professions Program.

Prerequisite: Honors Biology (B- or higher), Honors Medical Terminology (B- or higher), Honors Embryology (B- or higher), AP Biology Concurrent. This course is required for students who are planning to complete the Honors Medical Professions Program.
Meet Dr. Diana Sood+
Dr. Diana Sood is an advisor, mentor and a teacher at American Heritage School. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Florida International University and her Medical Doctorate degree at Universidad Iberoamericano in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She has worked with an orthopedic surgeon as a surgery coordinator/educator/ researcher. Her job involved helping patients prepare for surgery, post surgery, and postoperative procedures. Her responsibilities also included research with a well-known orthopedic knee and hip replacement surgeon with research papers soon to be published. She has worked at American Heritage for the past 5 years, teaching pre-medical classes and Biology Honors classes. During the summer, she serves as a research mentor for the Summer Science Institute and helps students advance in their research skills. Dr. Sood takes great joy teaching and helping students advance their knowledge in the medical and science fields. She is also proud to be an advisor for HOSA, a student organization for future health professionals, at American Heritage.
Additional Course Information+
A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
