ESOL (English For Speakers of Other Languages) Level 2

Course Description+
ESOL Level 2 is an intensive, intermediate-level combined-skills course offered to students in High School whose native language is other than English. It is designed to guide students in the development of grammar, reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills as applied to academic English. Students will be given a Milestones diagnostic test on the first day of class to ensure proper level placement. Upon course completion, each student will be given an individualized skills assessment report. In addition, those students who will be continuing their studies at American Heritage School in the Fall Semester will receive a recommendation for ESOL placement for the upcoming academic school year.
This 6-week course is offered for first time credit, for credit grade replacement, or for non-credit enrichment in preparation for taking the course in the future. Please check with your school regarding credit from outside institutions.
Session dates:
Session 1A: 6/09/25 - 6/27/25 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) (EST) - 0.50 credit
Session 2A: 6/30/25 - 7/18/25 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) (EST) - 0.50 credit - Closed 7/04/25
For full 1.00 credit the student MUST complete both 'A' sessions (6-weeks)
For 0.50 credit or audit the student may take first session only '1A'(first 3 weeks)
Meet Elizabeth Carbone+
Elizabeth Carbone is an experienced educator and currently the Director of ESOL at American Heritage School. She holds a Master's in Education. Elizabeth has been a part of American Heritage School for 16 years. This is her 6th year as the Director of ESOL, a position that entails both specialized direct instruction and overseeing our 7th -12th grade ESOL programs. Prior to this position, Elizabeth taught Spanish, World History, and American History. She is also the High School Student Government Advisor, building leadership and school spirit through organized elections, social events, and school activities.
Meet Gloria Carrasco+
Gloria Carrasco has been teaching English for 30 years. She has worked abroad and in the U.S. sharing her love of English and literature. Gloria earned a degree in English from the University of Maryland and is currently working on an Educational Technology Master's program with Florida Gulf Coast University. Gloria is an experienced classroom and online teacher who enjoys using technology in any classroom environment.
Additional Course Information+
A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
