Course Description+

This invite-only program offered to American Heritage students is carefully crafted to avoid summer learning loss and ensure our students remain prepared for the upcoming school year. This evidence-based and research-supported remediation program taught by certified specialists will provide intensive intervention through a multi-sensory approach. Students will reinforce skills and acquire new knowledge to become skilled readers and mathematicians. Students are taught content and complete activities that provide mastery-oriented practice of the critical skills needed to become overall proficient students. This is an in-person class only.

Meet Christine Colby+

Christine Colby, a certified Elementary Education teacher, has been teaching for over twelve years. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Iowa and Master's degree in Counselor Education from Florida Atlantic University. She has been teaching in The American Academy the last three years and has a passion for literacy. Ms. Colby believes the most valuable gift we can give children is a love for learning, and she knows that all children are capable of excelling when given the right tools and opportunities.

Meet Samantha Reinckens+

Samantha Reinckens currently teaches first grade at American Heritage Schools. With a Master’s degree in Educational Studies, and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Samantha has been in the field of education for over 13 years. She is certified in PreKindergarten/Primary Education, Elementary Education K-6th grade, and Reading K-12. She has been trained in Orton-Gillingham instruction and specializes in differentiating curriculum to accommodate diverse learning needs.

Additional Course Information+

A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
